A Special Invitation from Rabbi Sean Jensen

An African proverb states: you haven't lived until you see an elephant and a lion closeup! Every wise and seasoned traveler should experience a safari. A safari is the icing on the traveler's cake... a never to be forgotten experience... a photographer's dream... and you'll be thrilled by this experience at a spectacular game reserve in Zimbabwe.

In January 2019, I will be leading a return trip to Southern Africa in support of the charming Jewish community of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (formerly called Southern Rhodesia), their Carmel School and Savyon Home.

We’ll meet the inspiring leaders of the Community who, against all odds in this remote corner of Southern Africa, maintain the culture and traditions of their historic community. The Jewish experience in Zimbabwe and South Africa will be an eye-opening adventure.

In addition to the game activity, we will also visit spectacular Victoria Falls, an unforgettable experience, as well as cosmopolitan Cape Town, the precious jewel of South Africa which I traveled to a number of times and ranks among the most memorable world cities I have ever visited.

This is an opportunity to help preserve the remote Jewish community of Bulawayo and truly a trip of a lifetime.

Trip Leader: Rabbi Sean Jensen

Rabbi Sean Jensen is the Director of Student Life at the North Shore Hebrew Academy and the Youth Director of the Great Neck Synagogue. For over 26 years he has led many missions to Israel, Poland, Southern Africa and the Far East.

Rabbi Jensen has traveled to more than 20 countries. Inspired by Rabbi Marvin Tokayer, creator of the Foundation for Remote Jewish Communities, Rabbi Jensen brings a Jewish historical component to each of the trips he leads. In 1999, he and Rabbi Tokayer led a mission to Poland which was monumental. During that trip, parcels of land originally owned by Jews before the Holocaust were returned to Jewish hands and a beautiful synagogue in Oswecium-Aushwitz was rededicated.

No stranger to travel and with an energy and excitement stemming from a quest for knowledge and Jewish history, Rabbi Jensen is eager to share his experience and passion for travel on this remarkable mission to Southern Africa.
